The Knight’s tales shows the three temples, the temple Venus, the temple Mars, and the temple Diana. Each one represents something different. For example the temple Mars represents the god of war. The temple Venus represents the goddess of love and the temple Diana represents the goddess of chastity. I am just going to write about one though and so I choose to write about the temple Venus. The temple Venus has many things in the temple that show symbolism. The first would be all the wall paintings and carvings and it says, “wrought on the wall, piteous to behold, the broken sleep and all the sighs so cold.” This means that on the walls was on the people who were in agony and pain over love. They couldn’t sleep or do anything and so they came …show more content…
“Was shown on the walls there in the painting, with all the garden and its lustiness. Nor was forgotten the porter, Idleness, nor Narcissus, from time past the fair one, nor yet the folly of King Solomon, nor yet the mighty strength of Hercules…” and many more but the basic idea is all the people who found love and who Venus helped. This shows symbolism because nowadays we find hope and comfort when we see people who have found love or couples who have been together for a long time. It gives us hope that one day that can happen to us too if it hasn’t already. The last symbolism I am going to talk about is Venus and how she was presented. She was presented all perfectly and how she was a goddess. The real symbolism is “Her son Cupid stood right there before her, and he had two wings upon his shoulders, but he was blind as is quite often seen.” This cupid is one of the biggest symbolisms in our world today. It represents the holiday Valentines Day and everything to do with love. Everyone knows the story that if cupid hits you, you will find your true love. Everyone hopes for this and wants to fall in love and so the cupid represents that. To conclude, each one of the symbolisms found in the Knight’s tale represent something, whether that be a symbol of love or war. We can all take from this book and find something g to relate it
