The hero archetype is in many stories, in Sara Jewett’s “A White Heron” and Bret Harte’s “The Outcasts of Poker Flat” tend to have this archetype. Generally it’s easy to tell if a story follows the hero archetype by the symbolism in the stories. Harte has many characters portray different parts of this archetype. Where, Jewett’s character Sylvia is the only character that fits the hero archetype. Even though the hero archetype has criteria’s, Sylvia and John Oakhurst very well follow most if not all of these criteria’s.
