In the film “the shape of the water “directed by Guillermo Del Toro, Mr. Toro uses many rhetorical devices and symbolism to depict an mutual enchantment between an mute woman and an aquatic being from the amazon. Guillermo beings to distinguish the love story between the two beings by showing foreshadowing in the beginning when he has giles narrate on his personal ecounment between elisa and the amphibian . Some of the rhetorical devices that were used throughout the film are metaphors, similes, hyperbole, alliteration and allusion.
These rhetorical devices appear all throughout the film structuring Mr. Guillermo Del Toro’s narrative and tone .

for instance when elisa would go over to giles flat ,they which is just across the hall from her’s they would watch dancing than news . he also tried to normalize and allude to beauty and the beast when vindicating and referring to their love story . in addition to this giles and zelda go out of their way to make elisa happy, as well the amphibian seeing as they help better each other . for example , when elisa had decided that she needed the creature with her she had giles help her with Considering the fact that the director guillermo del toro used many rhetorical appeals and poetic elements to enhance his narrative . it can be inferred that the theme is love conquers all . in last minutes of the film it can be seen that love conquers all solely on the fact that even after elisa was shot twice in the stomach by strickland , the amphibian slit strickland’s throat and had scooped up elisa in his arms before jumping into the docks with her in his arms . he stood his ground for a few moments to show giles and zelda that even after everything he was not gonna let her go nor let anything get in his way of doing so
