Diction:is the author's choice of words and use of phrases in a speech or writing. The author uses “hey-soos” as diction on page 65 what is happening in this scene is that ben is having a conversation with jesus aka “hey_soos”the author use diction in this specific part of the book because he wants to illustrate jesus in a different manier when he talks with ben ,puts encens on him , another example of diction is on page 269 “i fall into bed in a heap” what is happening on this page is ben has just returned from finding rudy dead after committing suicide and falls on his bed to read his suicide note. The author includes diction to illustrate ben's actions and give the readers a better understanding ,in addition to author uses diction again on page 313 “dwarfed by the by the vast and glorious universe” the author uses…show more content… On page 23 ben is just thinking and he thinks this “when i go down for the count”the author included this to show ben will has some regrets not telling his family and in doing this it could cause them pain and thinks what effect his death would have on his family
