In the biographical film of Antwone Fisher, we as the audience get to view first hand on a young African American male who seen as violent due to his actions while serving in the U.S Navy. The audience gets the opportunity to see an individual such as Fisher and see what’s underneath the image that they portray to the world. We examine how psychological, situational or social factors come into play on how they have influenced him to become the man he once was during times of difficulty. The film begins with what seems to be a dream that Fisher who is also known as Fish is having which is a younger version of himself being surrounded by loving people and served a plate of pancakes. This scene itself shows a great deal of symbolism due to Fish mentioning late on throughout the film that when he smelled pancakes in his foster home he knew it would be an okay day. Freud believed that symbolism is dreams were used to disguise similar objects on concepts such as sounding or looking which has resembled on to the pancakes. His father was shot and his mother had him in a correctional center for women then was placed under child services but when his mother was released from prison, she never went back for him which would lead Fish to have abandonment issues and having a difficulty in trusting others. Antwone was a regular man with a difficult past and had struggles to come up in this world just like many of us can relate. With the proper counseling and receiving help from his psychiatrist, he was able to develop and emerge as a changed man for the greater good. It is important for us to be able to see that positivity so that we can acknowledge that even the most complex people can change when they have the will to do
