We Are Equal
Many people emphasize the differences in men and women and contribute these differences to their intellectual capabilities and social status. By this, women are deemed inferior to men. Despite these thoughts, men and women are equal and not one gender is more intelligent and requires a higher social status then the other. Intellectual capabilities and social status are factors that must be worked for, they are not given based on gender. Women have been fighting for equality among a brutal battlefield of men in all of history and we still continue to fight today. Seen when H.L. Mencken says, “That it should still be necessary, at this late stage in the senility of the human race to argue that women have a fine and fluent intelligence is surely an eloquent proof of the defective observation and incurable prejudice” (Source D). Women have been cast aside as weak and only capable of performing duties of a house wife, never a prestigious career that can be equivalent to high social status like a man. But over time as women broke through these barriers and pushed through the prejudice they are still deemed inferior. Women and men work side by side in all workforces today and with this, social status is shown that with hard work and dedication towards something, you climb the social ladder and can get as high as you please. Despite some prejudice that continues, female doctors, scientists, political leaders, artists, and musicians show exactly how gender does not affect social status. Men and women equally share
