SYRIA DBQ

Syria has been in the middle of a devastating civil war since early 2011 due to abusive leader Bashar al-Assad. Assad has retaliated against the rebels with chemical weapons and military force. The U.N. has tried numerous times to gain support to overthrow Assad and his regime, but Russia is a main arms supplier to Assad and does not want that to happen. Since Russia is a veto wielder in the U.N. security council makes it impossible for any of these plans to carry out. should not intervene in Syria because the war in Syria is not America’s problem. “Syria would ensnare Americans in a completely unnecessary conflict.” (BANDOW) This quote explains that Syria’s civil war is not creating any problems for the U.S. so why bother sending thousands of troops over to the middle east for nothing, but unnecessary bloodshed. When the U.S. intervened with Iraq in 2003 the U.S. had probable cause to believe that Iraq was hiding nuclear weapons and the U.S. knew that Saddam Hussein was getting out of hand. Only when the U.S. inevitably left Iraq did the U.S. see the aftermath, the country was easily overrun with terrorists and the government crumbled. If the U.S. ever does intervene the same thing will happen, so it is better to let the war play out as it is. Also the war does not affect the U.S.’ national security so the U.S. has nothing to fear. This is a very serious because it shows how there could be so much avoided bloodshed if the U.S. does not intervene. The U.S. would dodge a bullet literally if they do not intervene in
