Petrie’s Electronics 3/4 Questions

1. What qualities might Jim possess that would make him a successful project manager?

Some qualities that Jim should possess are organization, time management, analytical, and ability to communicate both verbal and written. These qualities will help to keep good control over the project along with being able to keep track of where the project is at all times. Because some of his team members will be busy with other things within the company, excellent communication will be vital to keep everyone in the loop along with making sure each portion of the project is completed successfully.

2. How do you think Jim should respond to Ella’s implied pressure about the importance of the project to her?

Jim should remember that he is ultimately in charge of the project and its outcome. He needs to be able to lay out his expectations of the project and what the goals and objectives will be that will be accomplished. Setting ground rules, job duties and roles will make sure that everyone knows their place within the project and that no one does work twice. This will also help that if someone is not tracking the way they should but someone else is, Jim will be able to rectify accordingly. This will let Ella know who is doing what, so if she wants to peek in she will know who to see.

3. What strategies might Jim employ to deal with a very busy team member such as Carmen Sanchez?

Some good strategies that Jim will be able employ are telephone conferences and group outings. Telephone conferences help to send and receive information with the project group without having to be in same place. This enables to relieve schedule stresses for the group members so they don’t get agitated having to be certain places at certain times when already dealing with hectic schedules. The Group outings help to get to know each other and to build team relationships. These group outings will get everyone away from the work atmosphere to help discussing the project a bit easier.
