In the short story “Greasy Lake,” T.C. Boyle illustrates a wild story about three nineteen year old boys on a summer night out. These boys see themselves as “bad characters,” they drink, smoke pot, wear leather jackets, and chuck eggs at mailboxes. One night, the trio misidentifies a car as their friend’s Tony, which starts the unfortunate chain of events for the night. The boys harass the car since they assume it is their friend Tony with a girl. The man inside is a complete stranger and comes out and fights the boys for disrupting his night.
