Zappos is amazing. Not only does the company have any kind of shoe you are looking for, but you can also find handbags, accessories, home goods and clothing for the entire family. The company also offers free shipping and free returns. Shopping on this site is an absolute win. To be a part of this company would make anyone feel honored, in my opinion. Zappos starts their screening by having applicants apply online. By doing this, human resources can review resumes quickly and weed out those who would not meet the Zappos standards. This step is also where the potential candidate is given instruction to read the company’s values. If an applicant makes it past a phone screen and a first interview, they will be asked about Zappos core values. Part of the testing is to put the applicant in situations with other Zappos employees to see how they treat them. One of the company’s values is “Be Humble”. If an applicant can’t treat a bus driver with respect, then Zappos doesn’t want to employ them. Zappos has come up with an innovative way to perform an interview. The Zappos interview process is very unique. Zappos realizes that during an interview, people do not always act like they truly would in particular situations. To see an applicant for whom they really are, Zappos has applicants go to lunch with the recruiting team. This is so the team can see how the applicant will interact with other people. As stated, the Zappos environment is “loud, lively, and sociable”. Zappos is comparing information given to them by the applicant and what they gather from the actual interview. By gathering all of this information, Zappos is trying to find the right fit for the position. To measure the success of selection, Zappos could develop an anonymous questionnaire for employees to rate orientation, training and understanding of the job they are performing.
