It’s the time all seniors have looked forward to since that first day of freshman year. Everything is about to change. It’s a time of moving out and beginning to figure out life for yourself, a time to become a person of independence and not someone who looks to their parents every time they need something. College is a time for adventure because you find yourself taking risks, learning to grow, and surrounding yourself with like-minded people. Three necessities that everyone needs to experience. The idea of taking risks can terrify someone. We get taken outside our comfort zone and forced to experience something we never thought we would. At one point in your life taking risk help you better adjust to life in college. According to Dr. Roush, “be prepared to take a responsible risk, though I am mostly talking about academic risk when I say this. I worry that too many young people chase good grades rather than the best education they can acquire. Be conscious of your GPA, of course, but take some risk with the wide array of courses that are available”. (Roush, 1) We find ourselves taking more risk than we would have thought. Growing now doesn’t mean taking that middle school growth spurt, but growing more mentally than physically. Growing mentally can mean learning how to care for yourself and no larger depending on someone. Dr Roush states, “ take care of yourself, aware that body and mind are one. Be sure you get enough rest. Eat right. Find some form of exercise that works for you. I recommend spiritual exercise as well. This may be something completely conventional, but makes this more than a weekly occurrence only.” (Roush, 2) Learning to become responsible for yourself and your actions can lead to the biggest amount of growth.
