A Tale of Two Cities This novel was written by Charles Dickens. It took place in London and Paris, before the French Revolution begun. One of the most important themes in the novel of “A Tale of Two Cities” is resurrection. In book 1, “Recalled to life”, Dr.Manette, who has been buried alive in prison is resurrected and when he becomes free, Lucie nurses him back to life with life and happiness. Darnay was also saved from death three times. Darnay was saved from Dr.Manette and Sydney Carton. Even Defarge is, in a way, resurrected, when she ironically surfaces as the lost sister that Darnay has been seeking to find for many years. The building had stone walls and stone battlements. The whole thing was made out of stone. There were men’s faces and lion’s heads carved out of stone. Throughout the chapter, the Marquis asks if his nephew has arrived and he hasn’t. While supper was being made, the Marquis stares out the window waiting for his nephew to arrive. Finally, when supper was done and served, the servants announced the arrival of the Marquis’s nephew, his nephew is Charles Darnay. Charles Darnay apologizes for being late. While the servants were there, the two men didn’t speak at all. After coffee was served and end up being alone, Charles Darnay and the Marquis looked at each other. He looked into his eyes and started up a conversation. Charles said, “‘As you guess, I have come back, sir, looking for the object that took me away in the first place. It put me in great and unexpected danger. But it is a sacred object, and even if it had led to my death, I hope it would have protected me”’ (2).
