The case of Tamir Rice, a twelve-year-old boy in Cleveland, Ohio, was a tragic misunderstanding. The police were responding to reports of a black male who was sitting on a swing, pointing a gun at various people at the local park. When Rice saw the police cruiser he proceeded to walk towards it, while simultaneously reaching for the gun in his waistband. He was subsequently shot and killed. The gun he was carrying was not real, but it was realistic looking, and the orange tip that would have indicated that it was a toy was missing. Without a question, there were mistakes made in this case. The dispatch operator failed to tell the responding officers that there was a possibility that the suspect was a child or that the weapon might be
