About Tampa

Tampa, the beautiful city on the Bay, is home to one of the most populous areas in Florida. As home to the largest city in Hillsborough County, the area is home to more than four million residents, according to an estimate from 2012. Located on the western coast of Florida, 20 miles northeast of St. Petersburg, Tampa is a city founded on a diverse economic base that includes finance, education, government, technology, constrcition, health care, and the city's port. The sucess of the port city is founded on the successful cooperation of the many Tampa area citizens who work together to make Tampa the amazing city it is today.

The city's port and international airport make Tampa easily accessible for trade, commcerce and tourism, and the city's rich history and modern landscape add to the appeal of the popular Florida city. Residents of the Tampa enjoy a variety of attractions and activcities within the dynamic region. For centruies, after European settlement of the Southernmost U.S. state, the Tampa area lay largly undistrubed until 1824 when the first American settler arrived to the area.

Quickly following the area's initial settlement, the area of Tampa experienced a boom time of outstanding propserity and growth. The extension of Henry B. Plant's railroad line in 1884 railroad provided new access to areas in Hillsbourghough County and beyond. The entrapenour built luxurious hotels along the rail line to attract Northern visitors, and by the late 1800s, the Tampa area was home to a rich and prosperous city with a large port and various growing industiries.
