Evaluation Essay “End of Watch” is a movie about the brotherhood between cops and the hardships they have to go through. Made in 2012, David Ayer portrayed the life of two young cops in the force dealing with secrets, which cause them become targets for the drug cartel. This film is touching and heartfelt. Critic site Rotten Tomatoes says, “End of Watch has the energy, devotion to characters, and charismatic performances to overcome the familiar pitfalls of its genre and handheld format.” This film had a well thought out story line and actors, realistic setting and crew, and moving experience. The story line for this movie was not only well thought out, but also had a wonderful plot. “End of Watch” is a movie about the strong bond between two police officers, Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña play the role of two partners that discover they are going to have to stick together until the end. Their lives begin to change when they get involved in Mexico’s drug cartel and unintentionally find the cartel’s stash of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine and enslaved immigrants. This movie is very heart felt due to the fact that no matter what happens these two officers stick together and promise each other that if anything happened to either of them they would take care of the other ones family, and with one officers baby on the way and the other officers child just born they had a lot on the line to lose. This movie is such a good movie because it is very realistic due to there being actual cartels going on right now and some officers may have to face this danger in real life. The actors give a very good and well played performance when they have now been put on the hit list for one of the worlds biggest drug cartels after they find the drugs. The bond between Pena and Gyllenhaal is so believable one would have thought the actors knew each other for years and that’s what makes the movie so believable and moving because the viewer feels the intense connection between the two. This movie really comes to show that police officers put their lives and family on the line every time they go to work, and they should be appreciated for the hard work that they do in order to keep the cities and citizens safe. The filming of the movie had a great deal to do with the intensity. The filming took place in Los Angeles. This city is known to have a very high crime rate which is what makes the plot of the movie so believable. “End of Watch” had to have excellent camera men because the angles and the way the movie was shot was great, the actions scenes were so well focused on it looked like it was happening right in front of you. This movie gave the feeling that it was actually live and in 3D due to the phenomenal camera work and picture. Many will say that the filming and
