The Outsiders contains strong ideas relating to gangs which causes people to think that the characters will negatively influence the readers. In reality, the gang references make the reader aware of what went on between the Socs and the Greasers like a history lesson. There is not a part in the book where either gang tries to convince someone to join their side, therefore not negatively influencing other characters. If anything, the aspect of the gangs represents teamwork and is a good example for people coming together.
