Many people, including the American Psychological Association, call devices a "dangerous distraction." They view technological devices, such as cell phones, as harmful and detrimental to society. They believe that all devices do is harm humanity and have negative effects on it. However, the dangers associated with the use of technological devices are outweighed by the positivity brought by these technologies. Technological devices are beneficial to society, especially transportation technologies, cell phones, and household technologies.

They have made daily chores easier and have given homeowners more time to do tasks instead of only working around the house. Another short story by Ray Bradbury, "There Will Come Soft Rains," depicts a futuristic house; this house does chores, such as cleaning, by itself as described in the story, "Out of the warrens in the wall, tiny robot mice darted...They thudded against chairs, whirling their mustached runners, kneading the rug nap, sucking gently at hidden dust." Household and cleaning technologies, like the devices depicted in the story, would be incredibly beneficial for society. Automatic cleaning devices would allow homeowners to have free time to do other tasks or activities that they wouldn’t be able to do normally. Also, these devices allow people with disabilities to lead a normal, independent lifestyle; disabled people wouldn’t have to be dependent on anyone to clean or do chores. Likewise, the elderly population could live in their own homes longer without fear of possible injuries due to cleaning, nor would they loose their sense of independence because they wouldn’t have to live in an assisted living facility. Household technologies, especially cleaning technologies, are beneficial to society and can help provide more free time for homeowners and independence for disabled and elderly
