(AGG) Technology is being used for everything now, but just because we can’t see the negative side effects of things, does that draw us to the conclusion that technology is essential? (BS-1) Gadgets are being used for everyday purposes in the story. (BS-2) Most gizmos are also affecting the characters’ humanity in a negative way. People are lost due to constantly being attached to technology. (BS-3) Technology has taken over people’s ideas, emotions, and everyday thoughts in the society. (TS) In Fahrenheit 451, author Ray Bradbury is claiming that people have lost all ability to form relationships, independent thoughts and many emotions due to the overuse of technology. Technology is also affecting their humanity in a negative way. (SIP-A) The technology used allows people to get what they want whenever they want it. This affects the ability of patience, and it also shows people learn with no consequences. (STEWE-1) People are too obsessed with satisfaction, "...the train hissed like a snake. The train vanished into it's hole." (Bradbury 76). The train is abusing the humanity because people in the society want everything done as quickly as possible and they want to have everything move fast and they want satisfaction. (STEWE-2) Consequences are limited in this society, “They had this machine. They had two machines, really. One of them slid down into your stomach like a black cobra down an echoing well looking for old water and the old time gathered there.” (Bradbury 12). The machine is being compared to an animal, a snake. This machine is a symbol of dangerous technology: the stomach being pumped allows members of the society to keep on overdosing, and they see no consequence. Suicide is popular in this society. Human life isn’t valued. The machine allows for people to escape life just to be saved by technology. (SIP-B) Technology has the ability to take over the world, causing people to turn on each other. (SIP-A) Technology causes people to loose sense of reality. (STEWE-1) Technology is causing delusion, "’Will you turn the parlour off?’ he asked. ’That's my family’” (Bradbury 46). The parlor being a symbol of a family is unrealistic because the people watching the parlor are losing all sense of reality and they are forgetting what family really is: they’re too wrapped up in television. People are lonely because they only watch the parlor walls, instead of interacting with people who are in their life and who are actually real. (STEWE-2) Montag realizes that people are too wrapped up with technology. "'...does your 'family' love you, love you very much, love you with all their heart and soul, Millie?'" (Bradbury 73). Technology is causing people to believe that the TV is their family. This is threatening to the society because they believe that the TV families are the only people who understand the characters. They don’t understand that the TV characters are not real and they can’t form everyday relationships with people around them. It leads to a lonely, unfulfilled life with no interpersonal relationships. The dangers of the TV is that people are becoming addicted to the parlors and ‘families’. (SIP-B) Technology is controlling all tasks, whether they are simple or hard. (STEWE-1) Tasks are being done for members, causing them to have things done for them. “Mildred
