The Use of Cellular Technology in American Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
“I need a new phone, mine is too old and all of my friends replace their phones whenever a new version comes up”. That is what I hear my younger sister saying all the time even though she has a functioning smartphone that got released a few years ago. However, she makes it sound like she has a phone from the 1990s. I do not really know whether to blame her for complaining and comparing herself with others, the school’s environment that is causing her to think that a newer cell phone makes her “cooler”, or the technological revolution that we are having nowadays.
The current scientific progress and technological development lead the world to what is called the mobile era, in which technology can be hand-held, placed in the pocket, and be carried anywhere. Cell phones come in the lead among all other technologies —they spread between people faster than any other device and everyone wants to own one regardless of the individual’s age or how much money he or she has. These devices can serve as an educational tool when they are used in the right way. There are many educational applications that could be downloaded and used in different classes such as calculators, homework planner, and apps that offer practice problems to different subjects. They can also use it to research a topic that they do not understand. Additionally, cell phones enable students to contact parents in case of emergency or to inform someone to pick them up at a certain time due to having an after school activity.
