1. The mixed attitudes that people had towards science and technology in WWI were due to the fact that people view some technology in positive attitudes while other in the negative attitudes. These attitudes changed during the WWI. One of the examples towards which people have negative attitudes was machine guns especially the political and the military leaders. Since military leaders fought in the battle during the 1800s, they view the battle with romantic idea that soldier fought with their skills, bravery, and honor. It was seen especially in France and Britain because military leaders were coming from Aristocratic families and they view machine guns as unfair, unethical and unsporting. This led to unnecessary death because of soldiers with swords on the horse against the machine guns. …show more content…

The big science characteristics include lots of human resources from multidisciplinary science in order to produce desire technology, lots of money, and support from the military and the government. As well, the social justification is an explanation why a huge amount of money and resources should be used for the certain project, involve basic and applied science, to have the balance between sharing the information with scientists and at the same time keep as the secret, and to have concrete results.
The total cost of Manhattan project was 2 Billion and 200,000 people worked on this project. It involved basic research focus on scientific discovery, in this case, the necessary part of building the atomic bomb was nuclear fission that splits atoms and gains great quantities of energy. People did not have a clue on what project they were working because they were working on distinct parts to keep secrecy. As well, it included applied research that handled building the nuclear bomb.
