The authors of “Tell-Tale Heart”, Edgar Allen Poe, and “The Landlady”,Roald Dahl, build suspense in many ways.Some ways the passages build suspense is by adding mystery, using tone, and foreshadowing the rest of the passage.Which all of these help build suspense.
One element in both texts is foreshadowing.Foreshadowing is a spoiler about what happens before it happens.This is used to create a good horror story.An example of this from the”Landlady” (line 104 and 105) when the old lady says;”But, before you go to bed, would you be kind enough to pop into the sitting room on the ground floor and sign the book?”This text evidence because the book is talked about later on in the passage, when she has to remember their names after she stuffs them. Also, in the “Tell-Tale Heart”, foreshadowing is used throughout the text.The crazy man states; “Yes! I have been very ill.” (line 1 and 2).The text evidence stated is important because he tells us he’s crazy before we find out ourselves.
