He manipulated with some primary elements of setting which include the time of day, mood and atmosphere, also man-made geography. The author Edgar Allan Poe included mood/atmosphere or lighting to be precise, when he wrote about the lantern. The black color of the lantern camouflaged with the night and the soft glow of the lantern, gave a sense that something was there. The old man with pale blue eyes, felt as if something was watching him but he didn't know what.
