Main Information

The capital city, Tenochtitlan, was founded on Lake Texcoco. The Spanish conquistadors conquered the Aztec empire.
Daily Life

Children helped around the house and went to school. Mothers made clothing and cooked food for their family. Fathers worked jobs like, craftsmen, warriors, and farmers. For housing, the poor had 1-2 roomed huts and palm leaves were used as roofs. The wealthy had brick or stone houses and all of the wealthy had sauna-like bathrooms for baths. For clothing, women wore skirts and blouses and men wore long capes and loincloths. Boys were married by the age of 20 by a matchmaker. He is also known as Moctezuma II. He lived for 54 years, born in 1466 and dying in 1520. There was a story told about a new white-skinned god that would take care of the tribe. As opposed to the white-skinned god, a white man came in a boat. His name was Hernan Cortes. Eventually, Cortes became allies with the tribes that hated being ruled by the Aztecs, and captured the emperor. Cortes controlled the Aztec empire with Montezuma as his puppet. The angry Aztecs stoned Montezuma to death.

Downfall

The main factors of the downfall of the Aztecs include, the arrival of Hernan Cortes, the capture of Montezuma II, and the expanding of the Aztec Empire. Before Hernan Cortes arrived in Tenochtitlan, there were already lands that didn’t like being under Aztec control. When Cortes arrived, he was worshipped as a god because he was believed to be the white skinned god. Eventually, half of the Aztecs were killed because of diseases brought with the Spanish.

For the civilizations that were taken over, they had to pay a tribute to the ruler of the Aztec empire or everyone in that tribe would be sacrificed. The strict laws placed on the empire were very specific. They included, punishments for break the laws, the actual law, etc. If you confessed to a priest, you wouldn’t get in any trouble the first time, but the second time would result in punishment. The main punishment was
