The applications of Aikido have greatly impacted my life. Everything about Aikido had created peace and harmony to my life. The concept of relaxation means everything. It taught me how to be calm when I’m tensed. Being tense would only bring me in harm’s way. For example, I am a bodybuilder, I lift heavy weights using strength, and it is hard for us bodybuilders to be loose. When we lift, our muscles contract, when they contract they become tense and stiff. During my trip the Aikido of San Jose, I got the chance to train one-on-one with the Aikido students themselves. As I trained with them, I can feel and see that their bodies and movements were really loose and relaxed. Their moves were effortless. When I got the chance to perform the basic blend with them, I could feel that my arms were too tensed and flexed and were very uncomfortable. It was not as effective as theirs. It does not matter whether you are muscular are not, it is about technique. Furthermore, relaxation has also helped me cope better under stress. Especially with finals coming up, the breathing techniques would definitely help. Deep breathing has also helped me through difficult times when I am angry or overwhelmed with personal problems. I take the time to adjust myself and just close my eyes, relax my body, clear my mind, and breathe. Another concept of aikido that I will use in my life that will help me resolve conflict is center.
