In this day and age, computers, and artificial intelligence are considered the norm in everyday life. Humans are constantly relying on technology and this superior intelligence, causing human interaction and human intelligence to lose power. This problem sparked fear in humans. Thus, in the movie Terminator, giving a futuristic view in the early 1980s, played upon a fear of artificial intelligence resulting in world domination. During that time there was the looming fear of nuclear war, which ignited from the growing push for computers and other routes of artificial intelligence (AI). However, other parts of society had expectations and hope that something so fascinating, such as AI, could be used for a greater good to help society grow and evolve. In the mid-1980s, people could start to see the cold war drawing closer to an end, and a slow decline of nuclear war. The release of the first Macintosh computer was unveiled to the world on January 24, 1984. Apple had originally come out with Lisa first before Macintosh, but was unsuccessful. Macintosh was less costly, half the size, and much more efficient. There were some other products out on the market like I.B.M.’s PCjr computer but nothing was quite like the Macintosh. In the video of the unveiling of the computer, the crowds’ response was amazement and excitement. There had been nothing of this significance open to the public before this type of computer. People could carry this device with them to work, or to the park, there were not many limits to what they could do with it.
