Terri Schiavo – the beginnings of pro-life and right to die The story begins with 26-year-old Terri Schiavo. Terri was suffering from the eating disorder of bulimia, which caused hypokalemia; hypokalemia consequently caused her to have a cardiac arrest. The results of the cardiac arrest were quite severe. She had severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, which lead to her being in a persistent vegetative state (PVS). CT Scans showed that there was severe atrophy to her cerebral hemispheres and an electroencephalography were flat.
