On Thursday April 20, 2017 the multi billion dollar company Tesla voluntary recall 53,000 of their cars. The model S and X crossovers were the two car types recalled due to a brake malfunction. Although Tesla has said that only 2% of the recalled cars would hold the faulty gear they still want to ensure all cars work properly. The malfunction persisted in the parking brake where they had a small gear sourced from a third-party supplier that could potentially break and lock it into park. Now the reason for a voluntary recall instead of a mandatory recall is that this malfunction isn’t harmful to the driver or to any of his/her passenger’s.
