The state of Texas has always been known for the oil and gas industry. Texas has many business driven economies that allows Texas’ state of security to continue to stay stable throughout the United States troubling time of non-economic growth. Some of these industries include the high tech industry, cattle, cotton, and most importantly, oil. Oil is such a major commodity in Texas because of the massive size of Texas. Texas is 801 miles long in size from north to south. There are four different parts of Texas including the Gulf Coastal Plains, the Interior Lowlands, the Great Plains, and the Basin and Range Providence (Champagne, and Harpham 7). The oil field industry is located mostly in the northwest region of the state. Texas’ oil industry has boomed in the passed one hundred years and will continue to be a steady income for profit in the Lonestar State. Researchers have studied just when the finding of oil in Texas really occurred but there are a few different stories. Petroleum was a much needed commodity as well as kerosene and Texas could provide this product. Lyne T. Barrett was the first man to actually drill an oilrig in Texas near Nacogdoches County but once prices began to drop, his project was no longer able to proceed and succeed. Also George Dullnig struck some oil while trying to pump out water from the ground but it was not a sufficient amount to sell and he was not able to continue (Olien). 1894 was the first successful oil finding in Texas that was proven to be sufficient enough to put a rig up. Corsicana, Texas was the first place to open an oil refinery that brought in economic profit for Texas (Champagne, and Harpham 12). “The Corsicana oilfield developed gradually and peaked in 1900, when it produced more than 839,000 barrels of oil”
