Doesn’t everyone want to fit in and be accepted? Then why do some people not allow others to do so. Bullied by Bill Brummel, “Texas vs Johnson Majority Opinion” by William Brennan, and The “Lottery” by Shirley Jackson all show examples of how people are and are not accepting. These three selections show how ideas and people are embraced and the positive and negative outcomes of that. The idea of accepting one another is needed in life, without it there would be depression and chaos. Although people may be different and have contrasting characteristics/thoughts, we all share the common goal of wanting acceptance and to feel important.

Johnson Majority Opinion is a very controversial piece of accepting something as legal or illegal. Texas and the minority of the court is against the flag burning and they state why they think it’s unacceptable. “Indeed, Texas' argument that the burning of an American flag "is an act having a high likelihood to cause a breach of the peace." (Pg. 16 Lines 19-21). Texas and the minority feel as if flag burning is unacceptable, they argued and expressed themselves to show the importance of the American flag and their opinions. Other say that the flag burning is okay and is protected by the constitution such as Johnson and the majority of the courts. The court states, “We decline, therefore, to create for the flag an exception to the joust of principles protected by the First Amendment. . . .” (Pg. 15 Line 1-2). In this quote the court is expressing that flag burning is an exception to the law and is acceptable under the United States Constitution.
