After being my partner in crime for many years I finally had to give my friend away. The day my friend got married marked the end of two spirited childhoods that had seen its share of exploration and adventure.It's an old photograph, but it is dear to my heart. The edges are torn and the image has faded but the mental memory is still deeply ingrained in my mind. My best friend, Konani, has her arms wrapped around me in a smothering hug.I'm returning her embrace with a huge smile,dressed in a flower patterned maxi dress with vibrant, mulitcolored flowers in my hair. Konani stands there adroned in her elegent, flowing white dress, with her black hair pinned back with enchanting, exotic hawaiian flowers. As children we explored the humid,thick, damp,emerald green jungles that overtook the land.The anicent trees grew to the sky with huge canopies of leaves to protect us from the rain. Climbing up the massive wooden trunks, we would snatch the delectable misshaped mountain apples and save them for later. We ran through mossy paths, while venturing futher and futher into the the forest trying to uncover its lost secrets. Deeper into the forest the branches grew together becoming impenetrable as if they were guardians protecting the creatures from the touch of man.
