The Civil Rights movement started in the 1950's due to racism in the South. Like any other group, they founded their organizations to make their voice heard, which wasn't always in a nonviolent way. “The Black Power movement marked a turning point in black-white relations in the United States and also in how blacks saw themselves” (“Black Power Movement”). Few people considered the movement as something positive and great way to fully attain equality. On the other hand, others saw this organization as violent and mainly separating whites and blacks (“Black Power Movement”). People like Elijah Muhammad, MLK Jr and Malcolm X advocated for racial equality. A party called the Black Panthers sought equality as well but their way of achieving it …show more content…
The NAACP was founded in 1909, with King becoming the “face” of the society in 1955 during the bus boycott. The bus boycott was one of many that MLK organized, he thought that if he got his community to participate in it then the council would realize that they are important. Even though some of their jobs were far away that didn’t stop MLKs followers from boycotting the bus routes The NAACP wanted integration between the white and black communities. The main difference between the NOI and the CRM was how they achieved their goal (“Dr Martin Luther King”). The NAACP used non – violent protests, marches and speeches to make themselves known. However, the NOI favored violence to make their point, “I don’t go along with non - violence unless everybody’s going to be non – violent…you get freedom by letting your enemy know that you’ll do anything to get your freedom; then you’ll get it.” – MalcolmX. By this he means that he sees no point in following Kings teachings because their enemy still attacks them even though they’re doing peaceful things. Malcom X thinks that the only way to get freedom is by retaliating with force to those who harm you because you’ll be showing them that there is nothing you wouldn’t do or fight for it. He thinks that if you show force then it portrays your anger and determination to gain your freedom
