President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, on March 23, 2010. In order to understand how the ACA brought more people into coverage lets first look at the statistics of the uninsured before the ACA (2010) and a six years later (2016). In the year of 2010 the Census Bureaus 2011 Current Population Survey (CPS) stated, that there were 49.9 million uninsured individuals in 2010, or 16.3% of the total population (ASPE, 2011), which decreased to 28 million in 2016.
