1. The prologue has the role of giving a clue to the depth the book in its philosophical purpose. Like most other prologues it alludes to elements that the author may use later in the novel. It also begins the tone that the author will take throughout the novel. It alludes to many things through Narcissus in the form of conveying human nature.
2. I would describe Santiago as someone who is a dreamer and a thinker. He doesn’t just stick to the same thing but chases for more. He questions life and he desires more than what he has. He is someone who is very open to adventure.
3. I believe that old woman’s interpretation of Santiago’s dream is more of her indicating that the journey is more than just the treasure that may be found at the end.

The advice that the Alchemist gives to Santiago is that true love should not get in the way of any personal goals. He says this to show Santiago that he must complete his personal legend so that Fatima is not full of guilt later in her life. I agree with this because in life you must first try to make yourself happy before you can be happy with someone else. If the relationship is full of regret there will always be a resentment for that failure.
2. The alchemist describes the emerald tablet as the gateway to the soul world. His explanation is not fully clear and describe that destiny is not something that you can reason to understand. I can relate this to trying to understand the ways of the world and beyond, for all we try to learn more questions arise.
3. The Alchemist gives Santiago’s possession to them to give them to the opportunity to continue on and live. They would have no use to him if he were killed anyway.
4. They are stopped and captured by tribesman who believe they may be spies. To do this the Alchemist tells them that Santiago will become the wind in three days. Santiago at first worried that he will not be able to accomplish this task. In three days he is able to become the wind after speaking to the sun, wind and desert. Soon after the Alchemist and Santiago go on their journeys
