“The Amenorrhea of War” by Peggy McCracken This piece explores the complex idea that blood has always been incredibly gendered in the context of war. Indeed, McCracken notes that many believe that only men’s blood, both metaphorical and literal, should be found on the battlefield. The article also maintains that this conception of blood as inherently masculine has been constructed throughout history with the help of legends, historical narratives, and various other stories.
