The Declaration of Independence had three main audiences. The American colonists, the king of England, and the people of the world. The Declaration was created to rally the colonists for the Revolution in the colonies. The Declaration was planned to convince people in other countries that there was justice in the American cause. The Declaration is addressed to such people when it says that it is necessary to explain the American cause because of a "decent respect to the opinions of mankind." It is trying to convince the people of the world that the Americans are doing the right thing. This was important because in other countries people would support what the colonies were doing and make it easier for them to succeed. It was also directed
