Another example of where the insanity plea did not work was in the Eddie Ray Routh case, where he shot “The American Sniper” Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. On February 2, 2013, when Chris and his friend Chad Littlefield, were shot at a gun range outside of a gun range at Forth Worth, Texas by Eddie Routh. Eddie Routh was 38-year old, ex-marine who had a long history of mental illness. During his trial, defense attorneys said that Routh was insane at the time of the wrongful act. On February 24, 2015, the jury found Routh guilty of capital murder in the deaths of Chris Kyle, and Chad Littlefield and the judge Jason Cashon sentenced Routh to a life sentence in prison without parole.
