December 11, 1978, was the day of John Gacy’s final death. The young boy’s name is Robert Piest from Des Plaines, Illinois, whose body was found in the Des Plaines River at the age of fifteen (Fritsch 157). Piest ended his shift at his local pharmacy at roughly nine o’clock at night. He told his mother, who was picking him up, that he was visiting a man about a construction job. He told her that he was paying $5 an hour. Compared to his other job, that was nearly twice the amount. As his mother kept waiting, she was then alarmed at the thought that he could have been kidnapped. She then drove back home to grab her fellow family members and two German shepherds to help look for him. The following day, police wanted to question Gacy. Lieutenant Kozenczak, whose son goes to school with Robert Piest, wants to do a thorough investigation because he learned that Gacy had recently remodeled the Nisson Pharmacy where Piest was abducted (SC 11). Lieutenant could not get a hold of Gacy that day and then the following day at 3:20 in the morning, he showed up at the police station looking for Lieutenant Kozenczak. The lieutenant showed Gacy the search warrant they had on him for his house. At first, Gacy refused to give his keys up to his house, but then later surrendered them.
