When people hear the word Atomic bomb, they automatically think of the bombing of Japan in World War II. The United States dropped two atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki just three days apart. The destruction killed about 150,000–246,000 people, and of the people there were women and children. The United States decided to drop the bombs to try to force Japan to surrender the war. The dropping rising a lot of questions, was it the right thing to do? Was it not? Was it ok for The United States to kill a lot of civilians that weren’t causing any trouble at all? I read two different excerpts that both talked about the subject and what they thought about the attacks. The only way they could break them is to do something big so that the Japanese would have to give up. “Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen as targets because of their concentration of activities and population.” The United States wanted to prove a point and this was the best way that they could do it. If the United States would have never dropped the bombs and if Russia wouldn’t have had attacked japan, the war would have still went on. “The trade embargo with Japan came as response to Japans domination of China. Japan had been getting Chinese territory and had been killing Chinese citizens for many years. The alternative to a conflict with the United States was to withdraw from China. Instead Japan forced a war on America to achieve the same aim.” The Japanese wouldn’t take no
