Although, “ A Dangerous Game”, written by Richard Conell, is a short story, it has time, effort, and enthusiasm put into a compact text. He shows this through the ultimate main character, Rainsford. Rainsford had to use many abilities and overall great attributes to complete a game he was forced into. He used strength and instincts as just two of these attributes. The way he completed the hunting game showed much intelligence. However, to begin with he needed strength. As Rainsford was shoved into the wilderness of the island, he had three hours before he would be hunted. His first sign of strength was a two hour run through the vicious underbrush. Then, as he finished there, he found a tree to climb up and rest. He also had to use his strength on a few traps. He had to find supplies, to make those traps I had mentioned before. His strength wouldn't help him get out of a quicksand pit he found himself in, if he didn't know what to do to get out. Staying one step ahead of the marvelous hunter following him was where his skills broke through to keep him alive. After all though, Rainsford combined all three crucial attributes, consequently, keeping him alive. Where or how Rainsford ended up depended on three combined skills. These skills were learned and self-taught throughout his hunting career but, his expertise took more than a normal hunting adventure, he had to go on some of the most dangerous hunts to obtain these abilities. Strength helped him mostly through the first day, but he stayed strong in all three days. Natural instincts foraged his major ways of completing this game. Although, his keen sense of smarts pulled it all together. Rainsford’s skills, techniques and limits pushed him to finish the most dangerous game of
