There have been many musicals adapted into films. Among these are The Phantom of the Opera, Rent, Hairspray, and Little Shop of Horrors. One of the most interesting of the movie adapted musicals in the musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Although the movie starred big names, including Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds, it loses the truth of the show. The stage version of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a beautiful story that should have remained on the stage. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a show about “the little town with the big shame” (Hall, King, Masterson, 1978). The story focuses on the story of Miss Mona and the Chicken Ranch. The Chicken Ranch is a brothel in the town of Gilbert, Texas. Mona runs this brothel which customers include the wealthy, famous, and politicians of the town. However, when Watch Dog News gets wind of what is happening, its moral host Melvin P. Thorpe begins to wreck havoc to expose them. Melvin P. Based off of the reviews of the movie and stage versions, the additions and cuts from the musical for the film, and the tonal change, it is clear to see that the movie version of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas missed the mark when comparing it to the Broadway production. The movie removed many beloved songs from the musical that helped move the story line along. The biggest mistake the movie made was changing the perception of shutting down the Chicken Ranch. This change threw off the story line and went against the original scripts flow. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas should have remained on the
