Throughout literature, characters have established similar, as well as distinctive stories. The Bible is no exception, particularly when discussing the stories of Delilah and Rahab. There are parallels between the two stories that show the importance the individuals posses. Although both Delilah and Rahab are given similar journeys, the two characters show different view points of what it means to be given a mission and how one goes along to carryout the deed that can alter the biblical universe.

The journey of Delilah starts in the valley of Sorek, where she encounters Samson after his adventures in Gaza. While Samson falls head over heels in love for Delilah, she forms an agreement with the lords of Philistine to find the secret behind Samson’s strength in exchange for eleven hundred pieces of silver. Delilah asks Samson for his secret and he deceives her three times before he eventually tells his secret, which is that is his hair were to be removed then he would lose all of his strength. One common trait between the two ladies is that both are referred to by their actual names rather than just remaining anonymous, putting them on a limited list of women referred by name. Being acknowledged by their names, within itself is monumental, seeing that time and time again, women are kept nameless and useless. An important similarity between Delilah and Rahab is that they were each given a mission or task to complete and they did so, flawlessly. Both ladies knew what to say to complete their individual missions, whether it meant deceiving people along the journey. With Delilah asking Samson four times for his secret, each time there after placing emphasis on his supposable love to get the true answer. On the other hand, Rahab used her words to fool the king of Jericho in order to keep the safety of the spies at
