Bluford High is my favorite book series because it brings an aspect to written literature that has not been available during previous generations. The Bluford Series consist of 21 books, many were written by either Anne Schraff or Paul Langan. Anne Schraff is a white women that was born September 21, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio. She published the series debuting book, Lost and Found, in October 2001. From then a variety of authors have contributed to this series. Five different authors have written at least one book of this 21 novel saga. This is what I believe makes this series so dynamics, this allowed for various perspectives to be embedded within the text.
The Bluford High Series is set in an fictional inner-city high school in Southern California. At this high school you never know what is about to happen and all the students have different stories to tell. This is why the series uses each book to focus on different characters. By having varying protagonist readers of the series are consistently intrigued because the reader gets to connect with a new character in each book. This shows that the authors and publisher, Townsend Press, had a specific goal in mind when creating these books. I believe this helped the authors’ ideas that shaped the books that they were writing. The group of authors were able to make the Bluford Series a success by being knowledgeable of the audience they were writing for. Each novel features a protagonist facing a difficult situation. This problem may or may not be school related but they are all common issues that arise in many urban areas. This series explores topics from bullying and family issues to teen pregnancy and gun violence. The 21 book series covers a span of 2 years at Buford High
