The Bundren family appears to have had issues even before the death of Addie. The family seems not simply divided, but fractured. I find the multiple narrative an effective way to portray their difference. The multiple narrators also provide depth to the story since we are given at least ten versions of events, each with their own thoughts and opinions.
The divisions in the family are amplified by the lack a dialog in situations, their thought are not always what they say. The silence between characters also give us an idea of the dysfunction of this family, or in some case a sixth since.
