In this iconic movie, The Breakfast Club, five students from high school were made to spend their detention Saturday in school. All of them had different reasons for the detention. They were called by their nick names which were the princess, the athlete, the criminal, the brain and the basket case. As the movie progressed, all of these students realized that they have to put their differences aside in order to survive the detention.
The major struggle that all of these five characters go through is the inside conflict to be perfect in the eyes of peers and parents. In this attempt, they took some extreme measures in order to achieve the social, athletic or academic perfection. After a while, when they open up to each other, there was one thing common in all of them and that was that none of them was enjoying satisfied family life and all of them were too scared to become like their parents. All of these characters had immense pressure from their parents to be perfect that even Brian tried to commit suicide because he achieved average grade points. Cliare “The Princes” feels that her life is like a toy between her mother and father, she is also represented as insecure virgin and her mother is an alcoholic, but she tries not to open her life issues in front of others and like to stay popular in her social group and school.
