Edgar Allan Poe was an author known for his dark themed works. "The Cask of Amontillado" is a story of a well thought out the murder of a man named Fortunato by the man Montresor. "The Cask of Amontillado" had a chilling buildup of a man's careful planning and patience leading to the cold act of murder. Fortunato falls into one trap after the other, and unfortunate fool despite his name. Between the double meaning of Montresor's words and actions, and the foolish actions of Fortunato, you witness the perfect murder that is never found in all the years that Montresor lives. This story is the dark, enthralling story that uses great elements of literature that both captivates and inspires people to enjoy and analyze more works in all aspects of their lives. It can show that writing is a good outlet to express darker themes that the mind may express. Writing is an expressive medium that many people do not fully utilize when it can give so many opportunities to learn about oneself and others. Reading stories like this especially in college can show that there is no reason to not indulge in such fascinating stories as they are merely fiction and great food for the soul.
One should always try to see what they can find in literature or make in their own writings that can be applied to other parts of life as well. One may find that it could do silly things like help them solve their favorite crime show alongside the actor's. It could show that they have an aptitude for finding clues and solving puzzles that can be utilized in many fields of study. The possibilities that such a short story brings with all its layers and expression are endless in the daily life of any one
