Literary Analysis In both of the stories, justice was shown in two different ways. In the ‘’Cask of Amontillado’’, Montresor decided to revenge against Fortunato instead of forgiving him, by using the thing that Fortunato loved the most. This means that there are two kinds of people in the world: the ones that forgive, and the other don’t. Many people insult others, but not everyone takes it to the level of revenge. In the other story, the father felt betrayed by the son because the son took his father’s money and wasted it all without any respect. When the son came back, the father accepted the son the was he was, although he could of rejected him without forgiving him. In the first story, ‘’The Cask of Amontillado’’, the main character has attempted and succeeded in taking the justice into his own hands. Most people pay attention mostly to the younger son that left. The younger son is only the first half of the story. The rest of the story is about the older son, the one who stays on the farm with his father, with the cows and growing wheat while his no-good younger brother is off whoring. The elder brother has always done what he was supposed to do. He has played by the rules, obeyed his father, and worked himself to the bone. He got absolutely nothing from obeying. Even though the story has an ending, there might be more to this story. Because the father forgave the younger son so easily, the older son was probably in anger. The younger son has done nothing to deserve father’s forgiveness. The real story of forgiveness in this story is considering the older son. He too must forgive the younger son, and it will be far harder for him than for the father. He must also forgive his father. He felt like he was treated
