The Choctaw were among one of the biggest tribes. They were one of the Five Civilized Tribes, which included the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Seminole, and Creek tribes. There are two Choctaw tribes left today, the Oklahoma Choctaws and the Mississippi Choctaws. The Choctaw were spread out in the southeast, specifically Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana. They were forced to move to from their original homelands. In the 1800s, the Choctaw were forced to move to the Indian Territory, known as Oklahoma today (O’Brien 1). The Choctaw lived in houses and small cornfields. They liked to farm. They harvested corn, beans, sunflowers, and squash. They also hunted, shot deer, wild turkey, and targeted small animals.
