John Truby wrote “The Anatomy of a Story” to break down the main components of an effective story into seven steps. The seven steps serve as a foundation, and if found with ease the story is deemed successful. When searching for these components in the short film “The Chubb-Chubbs”, these steps are not distinct which makes the story ineffective.
Throughout the short film, the audience realizes that the alien is clumsy and ignorant which leads us to believe that the alien’s weakness is being overall oblivious to his/her surroundings. The others in the bar see the alien as a burden and annoyance which shows how being ignorant is not only a burden to the possessor but also to the ones around you. The alien must overcome this weakness and realize that being aware of surrounding events is necessary. This step is clearly seen and well-structured but as more details get added, the story begins to have many fallacies and unorganized details.

The guest leave the bar as soon as they hear about the chubb-chubbs so there is no battle between the alien and the guests. The action scene takes places between the furry creatures and the “Chubb-chubbs.” When the alien trips over the bucket, releasing the furry creatures, the “Chubb-chubbs” get scared because the furry creature are the dangerous Chubb-chubbs. The true Chubb-chubbs attack the big guys easily, even though they have metal armor and weapons, but does not star the protagonists or the antagonists.
