Athletes that have experienced a concussion should be forced to reframe from all sporting activities, until cleared by medical professionals. The definition of a concussion is said to be "A concussion is a brain injury characterized by an onset impairment of cognitive or physical functioning and is caused by a blow to the head, neck, face or a blow to the body that forced the head to move quickly or suddenly" according to the Virginia board of education. There are many complications caused from a concussion that can result in permanent problems which could change an athletes life forever. It has been researched by physicians that, " approximately 10% of athletes take more than 7 days to recover from the effects of a concussion."

Being an athlete myself I know one of the last things I want to do is to let down my team and my coach which is why student athletes won't tell anyone that they are hurt or what they are actually feeling. If you don't sit out and let yourself fully recover, doctors have said, " failure to properly manage concussions may lead to long-term cumulative consequences." Heads up: Concussions in High School Sports says, "The Centers for Disease control estimates more than 300,000 sports-related concussions occur each year in the United States." As athletes we need to actually follow our doctors orders instead of going and not doing what they suggested.
