Literary Analysis Collection 1 Have you ever taken a huge risk in your life? Recall the sweaty palms, racing heart, and heavy breathing? The protagonists in the short stories “The Leap”, “The Trip”, and “The Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket” all must face theses life changing and major risks throughout their stories. All the protagonists made a decision that affected their conflicts. I “The Trip”, Murad and several other passengers try to flee their home country to gain freedom. “If they hadn’t been forced into the water, if he’d swum faster, if he’d gone west instead of east, he would have made it.” The test evidence shows that Murad is reviewing what decisions he made that led to his conflict with the police. In “The Leap”, Anna suffers a tragic accident while doing an acrobatic stunt with her first husband. This accident is what led to his death. “Her body twisted and she was able to grab the braided metal, still hot from the lightening.” Since Anna moved her body and grabbed the metal, she resulted with a sever burn to her hand.
